Gort Cancer Support
Gort Cancer Support was established in June 2007 to provide support and practical assistance to people affected by a cancer diagnosis. We adopt a holistic approach towards our clients and their family members by providing a range of activities and social events which will enhance our clients wellbeing and coping skills. Our cancer support centre is managed and operated by trained volunteers with the assistance of administrative staff and professional therapists. We offer a home from home environment where one will feel relaxed and welcome.
Our Registered Charity Number (RCN) is 20075927.

May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month, a crucial time to highlight the importance of protecting our skin from harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. In Ireland, skin cancer is the most common type of cancer, with over 11,000 new cases diagnosed each year.
UV light from the sun is the primary cause of skin damage leading to skin cancer. Both melanoma & non-melanoma skin cancers are prevalent, with about 9 out of 10 cases being non-melanoma,
Skin protection advice is vital for everyone, regardless of skin type. The SunSmart 5S rule is a helpful guide:
~ Slip on clothes that cover your skin.
~ Slop on broad-spectrum sunscreen.
~ Slap on a wide-brimmed hat.
~ Seek shade, especially between 11am & 3pm.
~ Slide on wraparound sunglasses.
Regularly checking your skin for changes is also essential. Perform a monthly skin self-exam in a well-lit room using mirrors to inspect all areas, including hard-to-see spots. Look for new or changing moles, spots, or lumps & consult a doctor if you notice anything unusual.
Stay safe and protect your skin! 🌞

Yet more of the businesses in town getting behind our 'Wear Blue' fundraiser. We really appreciate their support & goodwill. Many thanks to Pat Smyths Ladies & Gents Fashions who have donated a lovely blue polo shirt for the raffle running in-house this week.
Every Euro raised will go directly towards providing free supportive services to members of our community impacted by a cancer diagnosis.
Donations can be made at https://www.idonate.ie/fundraiser/wearblue4hollyblue2025 or by calling to our support centre during opening hours.
