Gort Cancer Support
Gort Cancer Support was established in June 2007 to provide support and practical assistance to people affected by a cancer diagnosis. We adopt a holistic approach towards our clients and their family members by providing a range of activities and social events which will enhance our clients wellbeing and coping skills. Our cancer support centre is managed and operated by trained volunteers with the assistance of administrative staff and professional therapists. We offer a home from home environment where one will feel relaxed and welcome.
Our Registered Charity Number (RCN) is 20075927.

July is Sarcoma Awareness Month 💛
Sarcomas are a rare & diverse group of cancers that develop in the body’s connective tissues - such as muscles, fat, blood vessels, nerves, tendons & bones. They are broadly classified into two main types:
• Soft tissue sarcomas (about 80% of cases)
• Bone sarcomas (also known as primary bone cancers).
Sarcomas can occur anywhere in the body, but are most commonly found in the arms, legs & abdomen. They often begin as a painless lump or swelling, which may grow over time. In some cases, persistent pain or tenderness may be the only symptom.
Sarcoma accounts for less than 1% of all adult cancers but is more common in children & young adults. In Ireland, sarcoma is classified as a rare cancer, with an incidence rate of fewer than 6 new cases per 100,000 people per year.
Look out for:
• Any lump or bump that grows over time—even if it’s painless
• Persistent, unexplained pain or tenderness
• Changes in mobility or function in a limb.
If you notice any unusual changes, don’t wait - speak to your GP. Early detection can make a difference.
