Gort Cancer Support
Gort Cancer Support was established in June 2007 to provide support and practical assistance to people affected by a cancer diagnosis. We adopt a holistic approach towards our clients and their family members by providing a range of activities and social events which will enhance our clients wellbeing and coping skills. Our cancer support centre is managed and operated by trained volunteers with the assistance of administrative staff and professional therapists. We offer a home from home environment where one will feel relaxed and welcome.
Our Registered Charity Number (RCN) is 20075927.

We are deeply saddened to share the sudden & unexpected passing of our much‑loved volunteer Mary Mahon. As the facilitator of our Arts & Crafts group, Mary brought creativity & kindness to everyone who took part.
Mary was so talented & could turn her hand to a variety of activities, leading our group in decorating plant pots, making hand stitched cards & so much more. We will always cherish the beautiful hand-knitted nativity scene that she made for us.
Mary will be deeply missed. Our thoughts are with her family & friends at this difficult time.
Rest in peace Mary.

At Gort Cancer Support, our 2025 client data reveals some meaningful trends that help shape the way we serve our community.
We continue to see a strong majority of female clients, making up over 80% of those who access our services. While this reflects the important support we provide to women, it also highlights an ongoing challenge: men are often more reluctant to seek help. We’re working to change this through continued outreach & awareness, ensuring men know they are equally welcome & supported.
The largest age group we serve falls between 25 & 64 years old, making up nearly two-thirds of our clients.
We’ve also seen a notable increase in referrals from both community GPs & hospital-based healthcare professionals. This growth may reflect our strengthened relationships across the healthcare system & our recognition as full members of the Alliance of Community Cancer Support Centres & Services.
